Google Play Q&A
I can’t connect to google play on my Motorola defy. This has been happening for a couple of days now, but I can use gmail and the browser just fine. All other internet enabled apps also work, so what would cause this problem?
Hi, Janine this that crops up from time to time and there are many things you can try to solve it. The first things to check is that the time to correct on your android device. Google play will not connect to a device where the time is substantially wrong and even a time different of ten minutes can cause connection problem. If you can try to let the network automatically set the time for you in settings date and time. Another trick to try is to sign in to your gmail account via the youtube app-for some reason this appears to force a connection with Google play even if your other Google apps are working fine.
The list of trick continues. Go to settings>account>&sync and ensure that both background data traffic and auto sync are ticked. These have been proved to resolve connection problems with google play and are one more step to trick off. If none of the above solves the problem, you could try a full factory reset,or check to see if there is a new operating system update available for your device.
In all honesty, there are many different problem that can cause an android device to fail to connect to google play, but one of the above should resolve it for you without having to resort to a full reset. Fingers crossed you can start downloading apps again soon.
